The Sustainable Provision of Environmental Services
1 Edition (2016) by
About the book
This book analyses market-based instruments which are used to foster the sustainable provision of environmental services. Through the use of field studies and the results of a multi-stakeholder dialogue at the FAO, the book identifies the divergence between theory and practice, especially the theory behind the concept of Payments for Environmental Services (PES), which is influenced by the ideology of neoclassical welfare economics and supposedly lacks financial sustainability. The book suggests a shift towards innovative markets, solutions and networks and regulations which improve the provision of environmental services. Further, the arising opportunities to create social impact through the use of hybrid PES is underlined.
